I did my research and i am going to put the sources of all the information i shared at the end of the blog so that you can check for yourself at the end of the blog.

1. WASH YOUR INTIMATE AREA REGULARY

The first Do i am sharing is to : ” wash your flower regulary ” i suggest that you wash it two times a day, morning and evening.

If you can’t, make sure you use intimate wipes( avoid perfumed wipes) throughout the day. Especially when you are having your periods or when travelling.

When washing your intimate area use clean water and remember clean on the outside , don’t go on the inside.

2. KNOW YOUR MENSTRUAL CYCLE

As women it is very important to know all the changes that our bodies go through during the menstrual cycle.

It is a MUST to observe and learn how your body adapt and changes during certain periods.

During the #noperiodshame campaign i participated in last month, i tried to outline few things about the menstrual cycle.

You can check my instagram highlights for more info.

Your menstrual cycle is divided into 4 phases : menses phase, follicular, ovulation and luteal phase. Your cycle can range between 21-35 days.

The cycle start on the first day of your period that is when you start counting DAY 1.

Periods can range between 3 -5 days.

The ovulation happen on the 14 day when the egg is released , during this period some women have a lot of watery vaginal fluid others don’t.

In the ovulation phase it is very important to wear a panty liner because those fluids can stain your clothes.

I highly suggest to shower two times a day for a better vaginal hygiene, this also apply to when you are having your periods.

Knowing your menstrual cycle helps you to know better your body, how to take care of it and what you need to avoid.

I linked down below where you can find all the appropriate information you need to know about menstrual cycle.

3.DO SAFE SEX

A lot of people don’t talk about sex or safe sex which i think is a topic we should talk about, especially with the young generation.

When we can’t abstain we PRACTICE SAFE SEX. i know most of you are asking yourself “What does it have to do with vaginal hygiene?”

WELL !!! When you don’t practice safe sex you are at high risk of having sexual transmitted diseases( STDs) which can affect your intimate area’s health.

Use CONDOM every time and make sure you change it after use, the condom is only used ONCE.

Make sure to take a shower right after sex for a better vaginal health.

4. SEE A GYNECOLOGIST REGULARY

Another MUST DO for every woman is to see a gynecologist on a regular basis. It can be once in 3 months or once a month if it is possible for you.

This a preventative method for every woman, it may help you track cervical cancer at an early stage which may be treated.

For people with menstrual pain i urge you to see a doctor because there maybe another problem causing the pain.

5.DO WIPE YOURSELF FROM FRONT TO BACK

While wiping your intimate area go from front to back,Don’t do the opposite.

You can bring bacteria from the anus to the vagina while wiping from back to front, be very careful and DON’T DO IT !

Also make sure to wipe your intimate are after peeing with a clean intimate wipe or toilet paper it is very essential for your vaginal health.

5 DON’Ts WHEN IT COMES TO VAGINAL HEALTH

After knowing some few DO’s now we are going to talk about what you need to avoid while taking care of your intimate area.

1.DON’T WASH YOUR FLOWER ( INTIMATE ARE) WITH SOAP

The first thing you should avoid is using SOAP while cleaning your intimate area , this is A BIG NOOOOO SIS.

I know there is a lot of promising soaps , intimate washes on the internet and everywhere but i highly suggest you don’t use them unless it was indicated by DOCTOR.

You need to know that your vagina is self cleaning you don’t need a product to help it do it’s job but it doesn’t mean that you just leave it, NO.

It means that you MUST wash your intimate area with clean water ONLY. Avoid using HOT WATER your flower( intimate area) is very sensitive.

WHY SHOULD YOU AVOID USING SOAP WHILE WASHING YOUR FLOWER?

The vagina has a PH of 3.8–4.5 which makes it acidic. PH stands for Potential of Hydrogen.

When your PH is unbalanced or disrupt you are at high risk of infections.

Soaps are highly alkaline which may disrupt your normal PH balance and cause infections that is why you should avoid using soaps, scented detergents, dyes etc….

Don’t put anything in your intimate area unless it is PRESCIBED BY DOCTOR.

2. DON’T WEAR TIGHT UNDERWEARS

Another thing you need to avoid or stop doing is to wear very TIGHT UNDERWEAR.

Choose an appropriate size of underwear and also make sure you check the material of the underwear.

I highly suggest wearing cotton based underwears and avoid synthetic fabrics they don’t allow the skin to breath which leads to increased temperature and humidity in the intimate region.

We all know that bacteria strive( live) in humidity so avoid wearing tight and synthetic fabrics.

3. DONT’ USE PERFUMES OR DEODORANTS DOWN THERE

We are all obsessed with smelling fresh and clean all day, there is a lot of videos on Youtube suggesting what to use to smell good down there.

SIS DON’T DO IT !

Every intimate area has a unique SMELL, when it start to smell differently it is a sign that there may be a problem or infection.

Don’t spray perfumes or deodorant down there to make it smell nice, don’t do it will only worsen the situation.

Instead wash your intimate area with clean water everyday, change your underwears after 3 or 6 months, wipe your area with a clean wipe.

4.DON’T WEAR A PAD OR TAMPON TOO LONG

This is also something we need to avoid, WHY ?

It may cause skin irritations, rashes even infection, it also start smelling differently when you wear it for too long so don’t sis.

Most doctors advice that you wear your sanitary pads 6 hours and change it,if you have heavy flow you can change more often.

Also avoid sleeping with your tampon for more than 8 hours because you are at high risk of developing toxic shock syndrome (TSS).

It is preferable to wear a sanitary pad when going to sleep than wearing a tampon.

If you want to read more about the toxic shock syndrome i will put the link at the end of the blog for more information.

5. DON’T PRACTICE VAGINA DOUCHE

Last but not least, ladies avoid douching.

Vaginal douching is the act of washing your vagina with water or mixed fluids to eliminate odors or clean the inside of the vagina.

This is not recommended because these products used during douching contains elements that may disrput your normal PH balance.

This may lead to infection, inflammation, if you want to learn more abou this stick till the end.

These are the 5 things you need to avoid for the sake your vaginal health.
